The flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, says the outcome of the December 7 elections could be compromised if the voters' register is not credible.
According to him, although the Electoral Commission (EC) acknowledged some discrepancies highlighted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the register, it is essential for the EC and political parties to thoroughly examine the issues to restore credibility.
Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, September 28, Mr Mornah said that the credibility of the voter's register accounts for about 80 per cent of the credibility of the election results.
“So when the credibility of the register is in question, what it means is that the outcome of the elections will be in question,” he said.
He stated that the EC, as the body responsible for overseeing elections in the country, should work to prevent any doubts about the credibility of the register.
The PNC flagbearer also expressed concern over the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the register despite repeated calls for it.
“So this defence and belligerent posturing of the Electoral Commission does not help anyone of us. What position the Electoral Commission is taking is that we will carry the suspicion of an incredible voters register into the elections,” Mr Mornah said.
He warned that this situation could lead individuals to question the overall outcome of the elections.
