The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced a substantial increase in the continuous professional development (CPD) allowance for pre-tertiary school teachers nationwide.
This move is part of the government's commitment to enhancing the skills and knowledge of educators in Ghana.
Professional teachers will see their CPD allowance doubled from GH¢1,200 to GH¢2,400, while non-professional teachers will benefit from a 50% increase, raising their allowance from GHC800 to GH¢1,200.

This significant adjustment aims to provide teachers with more financial resources to improve their professional competencies.
In a statement released on Monday, September 30, the Ministry confirmed that payments reflecting these revised allowances have already been disbursed to eligible teachers.
The timely disbursement underscores the government's commitment to supporting educators in their professional journeys.
“These enhancements reflect the government’s commitment to supporting teachers in pursuing professional development and skill upgrades, ensuring they are equipped with modern skills and knowledge to deliver effective teaching,” the statement read.
The CPD allowance, introduced in 2020, is designed to offer financial backing for both professional and non-professional teachers to pursue training opportunities, adopt new teaching methodologies, and enhance their skill sets.
By providing this support, the government aims to cultivate a more competent teaching workforce.
