Rotary clubs in Ghana participated in the Rotary Family Health Day (RFHD) medical screening.

The Rotary Family Health Day is an initiative of the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention (RFHA) Inc., a global action group of Rotary Club members.

The Rotary Clubs of Ghana partnered with the Ghana Health Service to hold the 2024 Rotary Family Health Days. The aim of the program was to provide three (3) days of free health screening to underserved children, women and men in 30 peri-urban and rural communities from September 19 to 21, 2024.

The event was launched on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Hall in Osu, Accra under the theme “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities”.

Rotarians are people of action, driven by a desire to create opportunities, strengthen communities, and find solutions to problems that affect people around the world, and we tackle projects of every scale. With projects in every part of the world, there’s no limit to the good we can do.

Rotary Club of Tema is a Rotary International service club of professionals, problem solvers and leaders who are deeply passionate about improving the lives of people in the Tema community. We carry out humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in business and professions and promote goodwill and peace.

Rotary Club of Tema’s screening community was Adjei Kojo in the Tema West District. On September 19 when the screening commenced, the President of the Club, Rotarian Linda Anang together with Rotarian Gloria Delali Yawa Adedze, Rotarian Dr Doris Akwei and three Rotaractors supported 14 nurses of the Ghana Health Service to screen 135 residents at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Suncity, Adjei Kojo.  

The team moved to the Tetteh Ocloo State School of the Deaf in Adjei Kojo on the second and third days, where an additional 312 residents underwent screening and received comprehensive health education on nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

A member of the planning committee of the Rotary Family Health Days, Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian Ako Odotei, visited the site to ensure procedures were being carried out as instructed. At the end of the screening session, a total of 447 individuals were screened. This included 44 children under 5 years old, 74 children aged 5 to 15, 89 adult males, and 240 adult females.

The residents received TB screening, HIV testing, diabetes and blood pressure screening, deworming, and condom distribution, as well as health education and awareness about nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

The Rotary Family Health Days ensured that everyone, regardless of their location or circumstances, received the healthcare they needed.
