The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has expressed his readiness to recall Members of Parliament to the House with immediate effect.
According to him, he is aware of the business the government wants to transact through Parliament.
This follows the Speaker's adjournment of the sitting on Tuesday, October 22, amidst the vacant seats controversy.
The adjournment came after New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament walked out of the House due to a dispute with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who claimed to constitute the majority and took over their seats.
Alban Bagbin told the House that while there were enough members to conduct business, the numbers were insufficient to make decisions.
But addressing the media in Parliament on Thursday, November 6, the Speaker reiterated his willingness to cooperate and collaborate with the government to facilitate business in the House.
“The Parliament of Ghana shall commence sitting as by law prescribed from tomorrow, November 7, 2024.
"I’m aware of the business the government wants to transact through Parliament, and I’m willing to cooperate and collaborate with the government,” he said.
Despite the recent controversies, Alban Bagbin stated that he would prioritise Ghana’s interest, adding, “All Ghanaians should bear the President, Parliament, the judiciary, and all our leaders in prayer for the betterment of our people and country.”
