The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says Ghanaians have a collective responsibility to halt the increasing level of despondency in the country due to the economic challenges.
“This election is no more about NDC and NPP but a desire by well-meaning Ghanaians to rescue the nation from further destruction,” he told communities he has been visiting in the Ashanti Region.
The NDC National Chairman has been engaging in retail campaigns in the region since last week, visiting rural communities with a message of change.
He said all critical sectors of the economy, including education, health, security, and agriculture needed to be enhanced to prevent Ghanaians from suffering further untold hardships.
Voting for the NDC to take the reins of government was the only way to restore hope and return the country to the path of growth and economic emancipation, he said.
Mr Asiedu Nketia alleged that the government was cowing critical voices in society into submission by making it difficult for them to criticise “their bad governance.”
“Today, even the clergy and chiefs who are expected to stand up for the people cannot do so because of the hostile environment they find themselves,” he said.
He said the gains made as a country since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992 could only be maintained and improved if every Ghanaian upheld his or her civic responsibility by voting come December 7, 2024.
