Former President and NDC Presidential Candidate John Mahama has openly criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo over a statue recently erected in his honor, questioning the President’s focus on self-promotion.
Speaking on his tour of the Western North Region, Mr Mahama highlighted his contributions to Ghana’s infrastructure, suggesting that if he had prioritised self-glorification, his statues would be visible nationwide.
“Typically, you leave office and then get recognised for your achievements with such a tribute. But here, you’re still in office and already unveiling your own statue.
"If I had chosen to put up statues in places where I accomplished major projects, you’d see my likeness everywhere—at Tema Harbour, Kotoka Airport Terminal 3, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Kasoa Interchange, and Kejetia Market. My statues would be all over the country,” he remarked on Thursday, November 14.
He noted that these locations aforementioned represent significant infrastructure projects completed during his administration.

Mr Mahama went on to criticise President Akufo-Addo for unveiling his statue at a site where the surrounding project remains unfinished.
He therefore called on the NPP government to step aside, saying, “The level of destruction the NPP has brought is enough. They should leave for the NDC to come and protect the rest.”
