The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed pride and excitement in congratulating two prominent Ghanaian sports leaders, Mr Herbert Mensah and Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, on their recent appointments to global sporting positions.
In addition to his election as President of Rugby Africa, Herbert Mensah has been appointed to the World Rugby Executive Board as the representative of the regional unions. Mensah joins five other elected members, including World Rugby President Brett Robinson and Chief Executive Alan Gilpin.
Since he was appointed President of Rugby Africa 2023, Mensah has championed a shift in global thinking and advocated for increased investment in rugby.
He has promoted the idea of looking at rugby as a lucrative business opportunity by participating in key forums such as the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa and the Africa Investment Forum.
This achievement underscores his unwavering dedication to promoting rugby across the African continent.
SWAG hailed this milestone as a significant accomplishment not just for Ghana but for Africa as a whole, as it underscores the continent’s growing influence in international rugby.
Similarly, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu has earned a place on the Executive Council of the Africa Table Tennis Federation.
His election is a recognition of his relentless efforts in advancing table tennis in Ghana and the broader African region.
A New Era for Ghanaian Sports
The elections of these two distinguished leaders signify a new chapter for Ghanaian sports, highlighting the nation’s expanding leadership and influence in the global sporting arena.
In a statement, SWAG lauded the achievements of both men:
“These elections mark a new era for Ghanaian sports, demonstrating our country's growing influence and leadership in the global sports community. We are proud to see the tireless work of Mr Herbert Mensah and Mr Mawuko Afadzinu recognised on such prestigious platforms.”
SWAG acknowledged its role in championing the efforts of Ghana’s sporting community and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting excellence within the industry.
