The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta, Emmanuel Gemegah has detailed the transformational achievements in revitalising urban parks and gardens within the municipality.
In his address at the Keta Municipal Assembly press briefing, he highlighted the critical role these spaces play in enhancing urban aesthetics, promoting environmental sustainability, and improving residents' quality of life.
Mr Gemegah also used the opportunity to urge residents to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure the continuation of such developmental initiatives.
“When I assumed office in 2021, the state of our parks and gardens was disheartening,” Mr. Gemegah revealed.
Years of neglect had left these crucial green spaces in severe disrepair, with only a small section used for flower cultivation while the rest had deteriorated into dense, overgrown areas.
“It had even become a site for improper activities, including open defecation, which detracted from its potential as a valuable community asset,” he added.

Recognizing the untapped promise of these spaces, the Assembly made a bold decision in 2023 to revitalize the parks.
This initiative, driven by a strategic partnership with a private investor, marked a turning point in the municipality’s development trajectory.
Mr. Gemegah outlined several key milestones achieved through this collaboration.
Multipurpose Community Center:
A versatile community center has been developed, providing a hub for various activities such as workshops, social gatherings, and recreational events. “This center has become a focal point for community engagement and fosters social cohesion,” he noted.
Enhanced Aesthetics and Landscaping:
Extensive landscaping and the planting of ornamental trees have turned the area into a visually appealing destination. “The transformation has restored the beauty of our parks, offering residents a serene environment to relax and reconnect with nature,” he emphasised.
Economic Growth and Employment:
The revitalization project has generated significant economic benefits for the municipality. Increased patronage of the facility has boosted local businesses and created new jobs. “This project is not just about beautification; it’s a catalyst for economic growth, benefiting small vendors and service providers in the community,” Mr. Gemegah stated.
Sustainable Maintenance:
The partnership ensures ongoing maintenance and prevents the area from falling back into neglect. “Sustainability is at the heart of this transformation. This model demonstrates the importance of strategic collaboration in maintaining public infrastructure,” he explained.
Mr. Gemegah emphasised that such developmental strides are possible because of the NPP's commitment to infrastructure and community development.

“This achievement underscores the immense potential of leveraging public-private partnerships to drive meaningful change. The revitalized parks and gardens are a testament to what can be accomplished when we prioritize sustainability and community well-being,” he declared.
He urged residents to continue supporting the NPP to ensure ongoing and future development projects.
“We have laid a strong foundation, but there is more to be done. With your support, we can build on these successes and transform Keta into a model municipality,” he concluded.
The press briefing highlighted how strategic vision and collaborative efforts have transformed neglected spaces into vibrant community assets.
Mr Gemegah’s message was clear: investing in environmental sustainability and community infrastructure is key to a brighter future for all. As the 2024 elections approach, he hopes the residents will recognize the NPP’s role in driving these developments and vote to sustain the momentum.
