President Nana Akufo-Addo has once again criticized former president John Dramani Mahama for his "consistent hostility" towards the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Speaking at the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) final rally on Thursday, December 5, Akufo-Addo emphasized that Mahama has continually opposed the initiative, despite its transformative impact on the education system.

The President pointed out that the Free SHS policy, which has benefited thousands of Ghanaian students, was a landmark achievement for his administration.

He accused Mahama of failing to acknowledge the policy's success, highlighting that it had allowed many students, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, to access secondary education.

Akufo-Addo further expressed his frustration with Mahama's ongoing criticism of the programme, stating that the former president’s stance was detrimental to the future of Ghanaian youth.

He urged Ghanaians to consider the benefits of Free SHS when casting their votes in the upcoming elections and to reject leaders who undermined the country’s educational progress.

In his speech, President Akufo-Addo made a passionate appeal to voters to support his party, the NPP, in the upcoming general elections.

He reassured supporters that under the leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP would continue to advance policies that prioritize education, ensuring that every Ghanaian child has the opportunity to succeed.

"Let’s not make a mistake on Saturday. He [Mahama] doesn’t like Free SHS and his hostility towards it has been consistent. He waged a campaign against it when we first promised it in 2008 and will cancel it when voted," he stated.
