The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed strong disapproval over an incident of alleged electoral misconduct involving a polling officer in Kintampo South.
The officer, identified as Joseph Dery, is reported to have issued ballot papers that excluded the name of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the first presidential candidate representing the NPP, raising concerns about the integrity of the voting process.
The anomaly was flagged by attentive polling station officials and party representatives, leading to swift intervention.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that Dery was taken into custody after the issue was reported.
The police acted promptly to address the situation, ensuring that the electoral process at the polling station was not disrupted further.
During a press briefing, Denis Miracles Aboagye, a spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, expressed the party's outrage at the development.
He emphasised the NPP’s unwavering commitment to protecting Ghana’s democratic values and called for vigilance to prevent any further attempts to compromise the credibility of the election.
“The NPP is calling for Joseph Dery’s immediate prosecution because whatever he has done was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise the Ghanaian people and the Ghanaian voter and to deny them their fundamental human right to vote."
“Let every individual that has also been engaged by the NDC to perpetuate such acts to note that we are going to find you out because we have a robust system in place in every polling station to find you no matter the machinations," he stated.
