The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called for vigilance among party supporters, accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of desperation and plotting to manipulate the results of Ghana’s 2024 elections.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party headquarters after the close of polls, Mr Gyamfi urged NDC members to ensure the integrity of the electoral process by monitoring the movement of ballot boxes and other election materials to constituency collation centres.
He stressed the importance of accompanying Electoral Commission (EC) officials at this crucial stage, noting that this is the point where results are put together and declared.
“Our polling agents and supporters must accompany the EC officials with the ballot boxes and materials to the various collation centres,” he said. “This is where Ghanaians, especially NDC supporters, must join our observers to safeguard the process.”
Mr Gyamfi also advised against premature celebrations, emphasizing that the NDC would only recognize results declared by the EC. “Our leader wants all of us to stop the jubilation until the results are duly collated and declared by the EC. This is not the time to celebrate,” he added.
He further accused the NPP of deploying what he termed a “rigging machinery” to influence the outcome of the elections. “We have picked intelligence that the NPP has now activated their rigging machinery to its full potential. They will be trying to snatch ballot boxes, swap them, and manipulate pink sheets. When you’re dealing with a group of people who are desperate and vicious at the same time, you need to remain vigilant,” Mr Gyamfi warned.
He called on NDC polling agents, executives, and supporters to remain on high alert until the final results are declared by the national returning officer.
According to Mr Gyamfi, ensuring the integrity of the process at this stage is critical to preserving the will of the people.
