The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Nkrumah Botsio, says the party performed poorly in Saturday’s election.
According to him, the rank and file of the party are saddened by the CPP’s performance in the just-concluded polls.
“It did not go well, it did not go well at all; we performed abysmally. We are very sad and very down,” he told Joy News’ Israel Laryea at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) collation centre in Accra.
He said they have learnt from their failures and will regroup for future endeavours, stating, “But we believe we have learnt from our failures and are quickly regrouping in order to give Ghanaians the government they deserve in 2028, which will be the CPP government.”
Speaking on the factors that could have led to the party’s poor performance in the election, the Secretary disclosed that there have been some misunderstandings among the leadership of the party.
“We have had some internal wranglings for some years now; it may seem as if it is only since 2020, but it goes back a few years,” he told Joy News.
He said another factor is that many members of the party left to join the two main political parties.
“You know the CPP was banned in 1966; it was only in the year 2000 that we started finding our feet. By that time, most of our members had already joined the NPP and the NDC,” he said.
Mr Nkrumah added that the party is also facing “financial” difficulties and “a bit of infighting.”
Ghana's first president, Dr Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s party, the CPP, has struggled since his demise. Over the years, the party has continued to battle to regain its members.
