The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over delays by the Electoral Commission (EC) in announcing the results of Saturday’s general elections.
The party argues that the EC's protracted timeline is heightening tensions and has led to sporadic incidents of violence in parts of the country.
Speaking at a press briefing at the NDC headquarters on Sunday, 8 December, the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, appealed to the EC to expedite the release of results to prevent further unrest.
His remarks followed mounting frustration among NDC supporters, particularly the youth, who are demanding greater clarity and transparency in the electoral process.
In his address, Asiedu Nketia, also known as “General Mosquito,” highlighted that both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had completed their independent collation of results.
He questioned why the EC, as the mandated authority for declaring election outcomes, had not yet fulfilled its obligation.
He warned that the delays were creating a dangerous vacuum, allowing anxiety, misinformation, and unrest to spread among the public.
“Both the NPP and the NDC have collated our results, yet the EC is dragging its feet. In our earlier update, we emphasised that the only way to ensure peace was for the EC to announce the results.
"However, the delay persists, and our agents are still waiting across the country. This delay has sparked reactions from the youth, which is a troubling development,” he stated.
