President Akufo-Addo has announced that Ghana’s economy has recovered to pre-Covid levels of growth.
He noted that recent economic data is evidence of the country’s progress.
“The Minister of Finance has just informed me on my way here that the third quarter results of the economy have been established at a growth rate of 7.2%, bringing the average growth for the first three quarters to 6.3%. We are indeed back to the pre-COVID era of growth in my first term,” he said.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of the Joint Transition Team at the Accra International Conference Center on Wednesday, December 11.
The Joint Transition Team is tasked, among other responsibilities, with ensuring a smooth transfer of power from the outgoing government to the incoming administration.
However, in response, President-elect John Mahama called on the joint transition team to work swiftly and within a modest budget, given the current economic challenges.
He appeared to disagree with the President's assertion that the economy had returned to pre-Covid levels of growth.
“We call on the transition team to work expeditiously and within a modest budget given the prevailing economic circumstances. Even though the president seems to strike a very upbeat tone on recent numbers, I am sure the transition team will establish that.”
