King Mohammed VI welcomed Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to the Royal Palace in Casablanca on Friday, December 20, 2024.
A statement from the Royal Cabinet highlighted the meeting as a testament to the strong relations of trust and cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania, as well as the brotherly ties uniting their peoples.
During the discussions, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of the Morocco-Mauritania partnership across multiple sectors. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing strategic projects aimed at deepening collaboration between the two nations.
Key initiatives discussed included efforts to strengthen connectivity between Morocco and Mauritania and the coordination of their contributions to African development projects. These include the Afro-Atlantic Gas Pipeline and initiatives to enhance Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.
President El Ghazouani was given a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Royal Palace, where he reviewed a detachment of the Royal Guard before participating in a traditional milk-and-dates ceremony.
The meeting underscored the shared vision of both leaders to foster closer ties and collaboration for the benefit of their nations and the broader African continent.
