The CEO of Box Office Promotions, Alex Ntiamoah, has backed the appointment of Nii Lante Vanderpuye as Sports and Recreation Minister, following his ability to "break the unscrupulous spending by government cartel”.
Nii Lante, who previously held the position before the change of government in 2016, has been tipped to return as part of President John Mahama’s list of ministerial appointments.
In an exclusive interview with JoySports, Ntiamoah expressed confidence in Nii Lante’s competence to transform the fortunes of the country's sport.
"I recommend him [Nii Lante Vanderpuye] to be the person [appointed] because he can help not only football but boxing and other least-financed sports and I believe he can deliver.
"President Mahama has promised Ghanaians that he is coming to make sure government money is going to be used judiciously.
“I believe if this man [Nii Lante Vanderpuye] is in charge, he can break the cartel that spend government money unscrupulously and he can get the best out of it.”
The former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency is known to be a huge fan of boxing and believes the sport has more potential than football.
Nii Lante has also promised to “sanitize football” if named as Sports Minister following alleged embezzlement at the Association.
