A former Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has attributed the party's loss in the 2024 general elections to its weakened internal structures and lack of cohesion.
He contended that the party's inability to maintain loyalty among its grassroots was a key factor in its defeat.
In an interview with Citi FM, Mr Crabbe expressed concern over growing disillusionment among party members, which he argued stemmed from a fail
“If people don’t see how the party’s success benefits them personally, they won’t feel motivated to make sacrifices. Loyalty is tied to tangible benefits and inclusion,” he stated.
Mr Crabbe further criticised what he described as a disconnect between the leadership and the grassroots. He noted that the visible gap in lifestyles between party executives and ordinary members had disheartened the rank and file.
“When members see leaders enjoying luxuries like air-conditioned vehicles while asking them to endure hardships, they lose faith and stop supporting the party,” he remarked.
The NPP’s loss in the December 2024 general elections marked a significant blow, with the party not only losing the presidency to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but also a substantial number of parliamentary seats.
