The Chairman of the Ministerial Vetting Committee in Parliament, Benard Ahiafor, has suspended today’s sitting following misunderstandings among Members of Parliament (MPs).
The suspension was announced after a prolonged period of heated exchanges between the MPs, which disrupted the proceedings.
"I suspend the sitting for five minutes," Chairman Ahiafor declared, as tensions escalated in the room.
The disagreement centred on the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who sought to raise urgent national issues during the ministerial vetting process.
His intention was to use the session to highlight matters he considered critical to the country’s welfare.
However, the Majority side strongly opposed Afenyo-Markin's move, arguing that the vetting process was not the appropriate forum for such discussions.
The Majority MPs insisted that the focus should remain on the vetting of the nominated ministers, rather than deviating into broader national concerns.
The argument over this procedural issue resulted in over an hour of tension, with both sides remaining adamant in their positions.
This deadlock prompted the Chairman to intervene and call for a brief suspension of the sitting to allow tempers to cool and the matter to be addressed.
