Popular Ghanaian comedian and event organiser, OB Amponsah, has made a shocking revelation about the challenges he faces in putting up his events.
In an interview on Hitz FM's, morning show, he revealed that he doesn’t make profit from his events.
He acknowledged the difficulties comedians face in organising their own events, stating that his recent comedy show held at the Bukom Boxing Arena left him in debt.
"I made a loss of about GH₵ 40,000,” he told the host DJ Slim.
OB, who has organised several comedy specials, including the 'Popular But Broke' at the National Theatre of Ghana, explained that despite the financial setbacks, he views the investment in his craft as valuable.
OB Amponsah made history on December 21, 2024, when he filled the 4,000 capacity Bukom Boxing Arena with his 10th anniversary comedy show.
Prior to the show he put up a post to complain about the high tax elements on tickets sold at events. According to him, it was also unfair for the Ghana Revenue Authority to place taxes on complimentary tickets.
This revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by comedians in Ghana, who often struggle to make a living from their craft despite their popularity and talent.
