The Majority Leader and Finance Minister-designate, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary group will designate its new leadership on Thursday, 23rd January.
According to Dr Forson, the Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has been selected to take up the role of Majority Leader. He will be supported by Cape Coast South MP, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, who is expected to serve as Deputy Majority Leader.
Additionally, South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, will assume the position of Majority Chief Whip, replacing the outgoing Kwame Agbodza.
The reorganisation comes in the wake of President John Mahama appointing four current parliamentary leaders to ministerial positions in his administration.
The announcement follows criticism from the Kpandai MP, Matthew Nyindam, who accused the NDC of delaying parliamentary proceedings due to the lack of clarity over its new leadership.
Dr Forson responded by clarifying the party’s plans and assuring Parliament of the timely resolution of the matter.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I remain the leader of the NDC Majority Caucus until I am sworn in as Finance Minister. However, I can confirm that the party will officially announce its new leadership in Parliament this Thursday,” Dr Ato Forson remarked.
