Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency of the Central region have apologised for the protest they staged last week.
The aggrieved supporters went on a rampage damaging some party assets to protest the perceived exclusion of their 2020 and 2024 parliamentary candidate, James Kofi Annan, from government appointments.
At a press conference held on Monday, 27 January, to apologise to President John Mahama, the NDC party, and their parliamentary candidate, the group’s spokesperson, Musa Moro, explained that their actions were driven by frustration, particularly after the news of the appointment of the CEO of the Gaming Commission, whom they believe had ties to the NPP.
They expressed dismay that the Gaming Commissioner was appointed ahead of someone like James Kofi Annan who had endured significant hardship for the party and had his businesses targeted due to his financial support of the NDC.
The group also apologised to the Effutu constituency executives, whose meeting they had disrupted during the demonstration. They called on the executives to appeal to Dr James Kofi Annan, as he had condemned their actions.
The group promised to repair all the damage caused during the demonstration and indicated that they were prepared to accept any disciplinary measures the party might impose.
