The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has written to President John Mahama regarding the appointment of the new Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Johnson Asiamah over his assumption of office, even before the Council of State approves of his nomination or otherwise.
The new Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiamah held a brief engagement with the management of the Central Bank on Monday, February 3.

The minority leader referenced a media report about Mr Asiamah's activities at the bank and asked the Presidency to take the necessary steps to remedy the situation in order not to set a bad precedent.
“If, for instance, a judicial nominee were to take their seat in court and begin administering justice before receiving the necessary approvals from the Judicial Council, it would be widely deemed inappropriate,” the letter noted, emphasizing that the same principle should apply to the nomination of Dr Asiamah.
There are also questions regarding the potential ramifications should the Council of State, once constituted, decide not to approve Dr Asiamah's nomination.
“What measures will be taken to address the actions he has already undertaken in his assumed capacity?” the letter queried, urging a thorough review of the situation.
The letter further called for Dr Asiamah to refrain from engaging in official duties at the Bank of Ghana until his nomination has been formally approved. While awaiting confirmation, the letter suggested that he could seek necessary briefings outside the official assumption of office.
