Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu, Muhammad Mumuni has been elected Council of State representative for the Northern region.
He polled 26 out of the 32 votes cast. He was followed by Richard Andani Yakubu, who polled four votes, Nyande Abdul Raqib with 2, and Adam Husseini with 0.

The statesman comes with a wealth of experience, having served as an assembly member and rising to become an MP. He served as MP for Kumbungu from 1996-2004.
He also served under the late President Jerry John Rawlings as Minister for Labour and Employment. Under the late President John Evans Atta Mills, he served as Foreign Affairs Minister and running mate to J.E.A Mills.

Inhabitants of the region who have hailed this win said he would bring so much expertise to bear having served in various capacities in Ghana and out of the country.
Speaking after his victory, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni said his vast experience, starting from the position of an assembly member to the position of the General Secretary of the African Caribbean Pacific Group, would help him share his experience with others on the Council to help offer sound advice to the president.
