The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice after he failed to comply with legal requests to return to Ghana for questioning regarding several high-profile investigations.
Mr Ofori-Atta, 66, who served as finance Minister from 2017 to 2024, is implicated in multiple cases, including questionable contracts between Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, as well as alleged corruption regarding the National Cathedral project and the purchase of ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
Despite an offer from his legal team to cooperate remotely, the OSP demanded Ofori-Atta’s physical return to Ghana.
Following his failure to respond by the stipulated deadline, the OSP escalated the matter, announcing Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive.
The OSP further clarified allegations regarding a purported raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence on February 11, 2025. The OSP denied involvement, labelling the event as a possible staged attempt to discredit the investigation.
In addition to Ofori-Atta's case, the OSP is investigating other alleged corruption offences, including financial mismanagement within the Minerals Income Investment Fund and the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund.
