The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has issued a strong advisory to the chair of the ad-hoc committee investigating the chaos that erupted during the January 30 vetting of ministerial nominees.
Mr Afenyo-Markin has vowed to block the committee's report, arguing that it lacks credibility due to the exclusion of the minority's input.
The committee, chaired by Ho West MP, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, proceeded with its work after the Minority boycotted it. The committee concluded its work earlier this month without taking testimonies from minority members, including the Minority Leader. The report was laid before Parliament last week and is expected to be formally presented today - Thursday, February 20, identifying MPs deemed responsible for the disruptions and recommending sanctions.
But the Minority Leader has accused the committee chair of bias and questioned the integrity of the process.
He further criticised the chair for allegedly pre-judging the matter.
"Somebody has written to the appointor, the one who appointed you, questioning your independence, questioning your transparency. If you really want to do justice, you will recuse yourself. But instead, he went on radio and TV attacking me and the minority, pre-determining the outcome. So it is one of the sins he committed,” the Minority Leader claimed.
Issuing a direct challenge to the committee, he declared, "... Now, you could even say that you would go ahead and do your report. Do your report, we will all be in the chamber and come and tell the whole world that this is what you think."
