The Ministry of Education and UNICEF Ghana have secured a three-year Systems Capacity Grant (SCG) from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) valued at USD$2.23 million.
The grant takes effect in January 2025 and runs through to December 2027.
This initiative aims to strengthen Ghana’s education sector by enhancing systemic capacity, improving policy planning, and fostering sustainable educational reforms.

As the designated Grant Agent, UNICEF Ghana will oversee the implementation of key initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The SCG will support, among other objectives:
- Strengthening inclusive education programming at both national and decentralised levels.
2. Reviewing and updating the Education Sector Medium-Term Development Plan to align with national priorities.
3. Enhancing national capacity for crisis-sensitive and resilient education sector planning to address emerging challenges.
4. Supporting the development of Education Sector Performance Reports to improve accountability and monitoring.
5. Building district-level capacity for data collection and analysis to enhance evidence-based decision-making.
UNICEF Ghana Representative Osama Makkawi Khogali emphasised the importance of the grant.
He stated, "This GPE grant will be instrumental in strengthening key areas of Ghana’s education system, including data utilisation, inclusive programming, and inter-sectoral coordination. This will enable UNICEF to deliver quality education for every child."
