Residents of Kanvili Kpawmo in the Sagnarigu Municipality are growing increasingly frustrated over Ghana Water Company Limited's (GWCL) failure to provide tap water for more than three months.
Despite the prolonged disruption to this essential service, households in the area continue to receive and pay monthly water bills, causing widespread outrage among the community.
According to the residents, the last time tap water was available in Kanvili Kpawmo was on 14th December 2024. Since then, they have been forced to rely on costly private water tankers and sachet water, which has significantly increased their cost of living and exposed them to potential health risks.
"It's unacceptable that we're being billed for a service we're not receiving. GWCL seems more interested in collecting revenue than ensuring we have access to clean water," said a frustrated resident.
Kanvili Kpawmo is not the only community facing this issue. Other areas have also accused the water provider of failing to meet expectations.
A statement signed by community member Lazarus Avonsige highlighted the residents' frustration with the company’s poor service.
“The situation has eroded trust in GWCL's commitment to serving the public,” he said.
Residents are calling for the immediate restoration of water supply and a fair billing system that accurately reflects actual consumption.
They have urged regulatory authorities to intervene and ensure that public utilities prioritise service delivery over profit-making.
