Ghana held a colourful celebration of her 68th Independence Day Anniversary at the seat of government, the Jubilee House, Accra.
The Independence Day celebration marks Ghana’s freedom from British colonial rule under the leadership of the country’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, on 6 March, 1957.

The anniversary, which is traditionally held on a grand scale at the Black Star Square—also known as Independence Square—and, in recent years, rotated among various regional capitals, was scaled down for the 68th anniversary and celebrated at the Jubilee House.
Present at the event were President John Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former President Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of Tanzania, and other distinguished guests.

This year’s theme, “Reflect, Review, Reset,” emphasised the importance of reflecting on the nation’s journey, assessing its current state, and planning for a brighter future.
Unlike previous years, when the celebration accommodated thousands of Ghanaians at the Black Star Square, this year’s event was limited to a select group of invited dignitaries within the vast compound of the Jubilee House.

The event featured a Military Guard of Honour, cultural performances by schoolchildren, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.
President John Mahama addressed the nation, highlighting the significance of the day and stressing the need for unity, resilience, and patriotism.
