Legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician Daddy Lumba has received royal recognition as his song Mpempem Do Me is featured in King Charles III’s special playlist for Commonwealth Day.
The playlist, curated in collaboration with Apple Music, highlights songs that bring the British monarch joy and make it “incredibly hard to sit still.”
Daddy Lumba’s 2008 hit sits at number seven on the 17-track selection, alongside songs from global icons such as Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Bob Marley, Grace Jones, and Davido.
The King’s inclusion of Mpempem Do Me reflects his appreciation for diverse musical cultures and aims to resonate with people across the Commonwealth.
