The Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly criticised the Mahama-led administration’s spending on the Office of Government Machinery.
He accused the government of using its so-called lean structure as a cover for excessive and wasteful expenditure.
In a post on X on Thursday, 13th March, Mr Fordjour compared the current government’s expenditure to that of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
NPP ‘large’ government spends Ghc327 million on office of government machinery and yet it was deemed as ‘wasteful’ so yaanom decided to try a ‘lean’ government. He pointed out that while the NPP government’s spending of GHS327 million on the Office of Government Machinery was deemed excessive, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has now allocated a staggering GHS2.7 billion for the same office, despite having fewer ministers and staff.
“NPP ‘large’ government spends GHS327 million on the Office of Government Machinery, and yet it was deemed as ‘wasteful’, so *yaanom* decided to try a ‘lean’ government. Meanwhile, NDC’s so-called lean government of 60 ministers and ‘lean’ presidential staffers decide to spend GHS2.7 billion on the Office of Government Machinery,” he wrote.
Mr Fordjour further argued that this expenditure represents a major burden on the public purse, suggesting that the excess GHS2.4 billion could have been used to build critical infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, and schools.
He concluded by accusing the government of engaging in financial mismanagement, stating, “We wish them well as they create, loot, and CHOP the GHS2.7 billion.”
