Former Ghana international, Alfred Duncan has revealed his decision to quit the Black Stars was due to the lack of ‘respect’ he received.
Duncan, who made his Black Stars debut against Mozambique in a 2016 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, retired from national team duties in 2019.
The defensive midfielder made nine appearances for the Black Stars between his debut and retirement.
He explained the decision for his early retirement from international football.
“With the national team, it was complicated because it was my decision to quit because I wasn’t getting the respective I think I deserved,” he told Sporty FM.
“For a player like me when I got to the peak of my career, I thought I deserved more respect which I wasn’t getting enough. I think it was best to part ways in order for the young ones or the ones they thought they were right for the team to get the chance to play.”
Duncan has spent almost all of his life in Italy playing for Serie A clubs such as Inter Milan, Sassuolo, Fiorentina and most recently Venezia.
