The African Boxing Union (ABU) has appointed Nigeria’s David Ikpabi as the new Chairman of the West African Boxing Union (WABU).
The announcement was made through a press release by ABU on Monday, April 14, 2025.
His appointment comes in the wake of the expulsion of Remi Aboderin, former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, who was removed over allegations of corruption and gross misconduct. In response, WABU suspended all activities involving Aboderin and moved to reconstitute its leadership.
Ikpabi will now head the newly formed ABU Western Region Title Committee, with support from Jean Paul Dago (Côte d’Ivoire), Dr Kpakpo Adote (Togo), and Patrick Johnson (Ghana).
Despite the serious accusations levelled against Aboderin by WABU members, President Ikpabi has strongly denied any wrongdoing on his part, claiming efforts are underway to destabilise the union.
