Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has strongly denied recent corruption allegations made against him by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.
Briefing the media on corruption cases on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine described the accusations as baseless, malicious, and entirely fabricated.
He stated that the claims made in a social media post by A Plus were not only false but laughable.
"A Plus warned me in the post not to do anything silly and that he would come after me if I did. That is laughable," he said
"The threat is laughable because I have nothing to hide. I’m reliably informed that his basis for saying that I’m corrupt and a thief is that I took a campaign contribution from a businessman and that he also knows the people who donated pickups for my campaign."
He dismissed suggestions that he was involved in the passage of the Sanitation Levy and was a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, and influenced its composition.
The Attorney General also dismissed claims that he had diverted funds from the levy to a friend, saying, “I’m not friends with whoever was the beneficiary of the Sanitation levy."
Dr. Ayine, therefore, dared A Plus to back his allegations with proof.
“If receiving donations for your campaign or getting a pickup for a campaign is thievery or corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including the person who was making the allegation,” he said.
He challenged A Plus to call a press conference or report him to the police if he indeed has any evidence of wrongdoing.
Dr. Ayine added, “I do not act silly because I think through the consequences of my actions not only for my person but also for others,” in response to what he called a veiled threat in A Plus’s post.
