Organised Labour has condemned the suspension of the Chief Justice, describing the move as “dangerous” to Ghana’s democratic principles.
In an unprecedented action, President Mahama suspended the Chief Justice following a petition calling for her removal, and subsequently established a committee to investigate the matter.
However, in an address during this year’s May Day celebrations, Organised Labour openly criticised the President's decision.
“Organised Labour has been closely monitoring developments surrounding your suspension of the Chief Justice. We have reviewed sections of the petition seeking her removal. Mr President, we are deeply troubled by this unfolding situation,” the group stated.
Delivering a stern warning, the union underscored the potential consequences of the President’s actions.
“Mr President, this process you have initiated risks setting our nation and its democratic foundations on a perilous, slippery slope—one from which we may struggle to recover.”
“We urge you to proceed with caution and careful reflection. The path you choose in this matter will have lasting implications for the future of our democracy,” the labour group concluded.
