Legal Ink, a firm comprising lawyers and notaries, conducted an outreach at Makola Market following a recent fire outbreak.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about potential avenues for traders to secure compensation for losses incurred in such disasters. This effort was part of the firm’s activities commemorating its 20th anniversary.
Addressing the traders, the firm’s Deputy Managing Counsel, Kamil Mohammed, highlighted the need for insurance as a safeguard against unexpected losses.

“When you have insurance covering your property and such a disaster occurs, the insurer will provide compensation. Depending on the terms of the insurance policy, it may even cover the cost of rebuilding the structure,” he explained.

As part of the outreach, the firm also educated traders on the importance of drafting a will. Associate solicitor Priscilla Mac-Andoh emphasised the role of a will in protecting the interests of one’s family.
“It’s important to have a will before we die. It spares our loved ones the stress of disputes and ensures that property is secured for minor children,” she noted.
The education rendered to Makola traders underscored the firm's commitment towards community empowerment and asset protection, which sets a positive precedent for the future.
