Visually-impaired candidates in the Central Region have today joined thousands of students across Ghana in writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), using the braille system to demonstrate their knowledge and learning.
The special needs candidates are writing the exams at the Holy Child Examination Centre in Cape Coast, a designated centre tailored to meet their specific needs.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr Julliette Duffie Otamie, disclosed that a total of fifty-four special needs candidates are sitting this year’s BECE in the region.
Dr Otamie noted that deliberate measures have been put in place to ensure that the candidates are provided with a comfortable and supportive environment throughout the examination period.
The use of braille by visually-impaired candidates forms part of broader national efforts to provide inclusive access to education and equal opportunities for all Ghanaian students.
The BECE, which began today, is a critical examination that determines placement into senior high schools and technical institutions across the country.
