President John Mahama has announced that nursing trainees at the Nalerigu College of Nursing and Midwifery will soon begin receiving their monthly allowances, with arrears dating back to January to be paid in full.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour of the North East Region on Friday, June 13, the President also revealed that the Nalerigu College of Nursing and Midwifery is among several institutions selected for upgrading into degree-awarding colleges.
“I’m happy to inform my father, the Nayiri, that the Nalerigu College of Nursing and Midwifery is one of the colleges that have been selected for upgrading into a degree-awarding institution,” he said.
Addressing concerns about delayed allowances, President Mahama assured the nursing trainees that the government has finalised a plan to automate monthly payments to ensure consistency and avoid future backlogs.
“We have designed it such that your payment will come automatically every month so that there will be no arrears,” he said.
“The budget was made from January and so when we start paying you next month, the arrears from January to June will be paid to you.”
