The Volta Region has once again affirmed its leadership in innovation and academic excellence, as the 2025 Renewable Energy Challenge for Senior High Schools took place at OLA Senior High School in Ho.
In an address at the regional competition, the Volta Regional Director of Education, Francis Agbemadi, hailed the commitment and creativity of students and teachers who have made the region a national force in renewable energy innovation.
“Over the past six years, we’ve participated actively in this prestigious Renewable Energy Challenge, and for the last three consecutive years, the Volta Region has proudly emerged as national champions,” he declared.

Mr. Francis outlined the meticulous process that underpins the region’s continued success. Once the challenge is launched, themes are shared across schools, prompting collaboration between students, coaches, and teachers to select areas of focus, conduct research, and design meaningful solutions.
“After developing a prototype, students present it to their entire school community, receiving constructive feedback and refining their ideas further. It’s an inclusive, hands-on process that prepares them well for the regional stage,” he explained.
The competition typically shortlists ten schools for the regional final, but with increasing interest each year, mini-competitions are now held to select the top contenders.
Mr. Francis applauded the students’ dedication and credited the initiative for deepening STEM education while addressing real-world problems with practical, renewable energy solutions.
Adidome Senior High School in the Central region emerged as winners for this year to represent the region at the zonal level
