A group of former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have firmly denied endorsing Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.
Their rebuttal comes in response to claims by the former Assin Central MP that 268 former MMDCEs had declared their support for him during a courtesy visit to his private residence in Accra on Thursday, 19 June.
Addressing a press conference, former Adenta MCE, Doku Ebenezer—who confirmed his presence at the meeting—dismissed the claim as entirely inaccurate.
“Kennedy Agyapong invited all of us; I was there,” he said. “But we did not throw our support behind him. His assertion that over 250 MMDCEs came to endorse him is false.”
Mr Doku described the meeting as an informal social gathering rather than a political endorsement event.
“We are reading a statement today on behalf of all of us. No statement was read during the meeting. We spoke, wined and dined, and then we left,” he explained. “Today, we are making this clear with an official statement.”
The group of former MMDCEs highlighted three key points in their clarification:
- They did not endorse Kennedy Agyapong during or after the meeting.
- No formal or informal support was given.
- Reports suggesting widespread backing are false and misleading.
“This is our only official position. Any other claims are wrong and should be ignored,” the group concluded.
