The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, says his institution is waiting for funds to complete the closed stand at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Prior to Ghana's 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Chad in March, the NSA announced the closure of the Independence Square Stand due to ongoing renovation works and safety concerns.
Though the expectation was for the stand to be ready weeks after the game, fans were allowed to use the place during the game.
Months after the incident, the stand remains closed, with Ampofo Ankrah revealing the NSA is yet to receive funds for its completion.
"There are challenges here that we must address. We are still waiting for the release of funds to complete one of the stands to allow it to be at its capacity," he told Joy Sports.
"Beyond that, there are works to be done in the long term, beyond the World Cup Qualifiers, and we also need to be mindful that before the new administration came in, contracts were given to people to ensure that certain works are done.
"So far, the audits of those works are yet to be completed, and it would be premature for me to conclude, but what I can say is about what I have seen so far. From what myself and my team have gone to evaluate and assess what is happening with our venues and centres, it’s not looking good.
"However, we need to wait for the report from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to find out exactly if those works were done and what more needs to be done."
The Accra Sports Stadium could be the venue for the Black Stars in September when the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers resume. The NSA would be hoping the stand could be completed before the next game.
