The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ghana Armed Forces, bereaved families, and the nation.
This follows the death of eight public officials in a military helicopter crash last Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while en route to an anti-illegal mining event in Obuasi.
The accident occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.
A statement issued by GBC’s Public Relations Department and copied to the Ghana News Agency described the incident as “tragic and sudden,” noting that the deceased were “dedicated gallant men in the line of duty.”
The deceased included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
Others are Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO; Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
“To the Government, National Democratic Congress, Ghana Armed Forces, bereaved families, and the people of Ghana, we know words cannot express our grief, but we know that God, in his infinite wisdom, will console the families. Your loss is our loss, and we know that they gave their all to the service of Ghana,” the statement said.
The Corporation also announced the rescheduling of its 90th Anniversary lecture from Thursday, August 14, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, in honour of the deceased.
“May God comfort you with words that cannot be explained and give you the fortitude to soldier on. May the departed souls rest in peace!” it added.
