A gold dealer, identified as Awal, has been shot and killed by unidentified gunmen at Konongo Low Cost in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The fatal incident occurred at around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, as the victim was making his way home from work.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, August 14, the Assembly Member for the Amerfa Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Baiden, said the assailants pursued Awal to his residence before opening fire on him.
Mr Baiden revealed that the attackers fled the scene with a bag the deceased was believed to have used to store cash and gold.
He has urged the government and security agencies to step up security measures in the area to curb the rising incidence of violent attacks.
