The Ministry of Roads and Highways has raised serious concerns over the installation of an unauthorised billboard at the Flowerpot Interchange in Accra, warning that the structure contravenes national advertising and road safety regulations.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, August 20, the Ministry confirmed that the billboard in question had not received the necessary approvals and highlighted its non-compliance with Section 5 of the Ghana Standards Authority’s “Advertisement Specification for Outdoor Signs” (GS 847:2019), as well as Sections 11 and 15 of the Advertisements Act (Act 540), and Section 188 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180).

The Ministry also acknowledged a separate statement from the Students' Loan Trust Fund, which disclaimed any association with the billboard and cautioned the public against the unauthorised use of its logo.

In response, the Ministry has called on the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly to coordinate with the Department of Urban Roads for the immediate removal of the billboard.

It further urged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to consult with relevant regional road agencies before granting any future permits for advertisements along road corridors.

“The Ministry of Roads and Highways remains committed to ensuring road safety and protecting our road infrastructure for the benefit of all,” the statement read.

Additionally, the Ministry appealed to the Advertising Association of Ghana to strictly enforce its code of conduct concerning the erection of outdoor advertising structures, as part of a broader effort to regulate and maintain safety across the nation’s road networks.
