Ghana National Gas Limited Company (GNGLC) has dismissed reports circulating on social and traditional media suggesting that the planned maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant was unsuccessful.
In a statement signed by Head of Corporate Affairs, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, the company described the claims as false and misleading.
“The maintenance exercise was successfully completed ahead of schedule and in strict conformity with international safety and operational standards.
"The plant has since been restarted and is operating safely. This can be verified by our upstream and downstream partners. We have been delivering sales gas to our major downstream consumers since yesterday, 27th August 2025,” the statement said.
According to GNGLC, the key shutdown maintenance works included calibration of safety systems, overhaul of the main transmission compressor, servicing of the heat medium system, and replacement of the heat medium system fluid as recommended by the OEM.
The company highlighted that while plant restart after major shutdowns previously took a minimum of 14 days, this year’s exercise achieved a restart in just five days, describing it as a demonstration of improved planning, efficiency, and technical excellence.
The statement further noted that both the Chief Executive Officer and the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Technical and Operations participated in the process and commended the technical team for the successful completion of the work ahead of schedule.
Ghana Gas assured stakeholders and the public that the Atuabo plant remains in optimal condition, delivering a reliable gas supply to power producers and industrial users to safeguard national energy stability.
It also urged media outlets and commentators to verify information from official sources before publication, warning that unverified claims only mislead the public and create unnecessary anxiety.
