The Ada District Police Command Patrol team has intercepted two tipper trucks loaded with 248 maxi bags of cocoa beans, suspected to have being smuggled.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Tema Police Command, in a statement, said the trucks were intercepted on September 10, 2025, at about 17:00 hours by the Ada District Police Command Patrol team at Big-Ada near the Ada Senior High School.

The double-axle tipper trucks with registration numbers GN 6953-22 and GR 9877-12, respectively, were being driven by Solomon Tetteh, aged 28, and Nicholas Tetteh, aged 27.
“A subsequent search of the two vehicles revealed 248 bags of cocoa beans concealed in jute and nylon sacks.”

The command added that the owner of the goods, Stephen Okronipa, aged 36, and the two drivers were arrested and have since been detained, and the two vehicles impounded.
Meanwhile, the exhibit cocoa beans have been handed over to COCOBOD in Tema for safekeeping.

The police advised the public, especially persons involved in transportation and traders, to desist from engaging in such activities, adding that persons found to be aiding or abetting in such illegal activities would be dealt with according to the law.
Meanwhile, the GNA gathered that for about two years now, COCOBOD has been faced with cocoa bean smuggling, especially to Togo, due to price differentials.
