The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has disclosed that the Ghana Navy is in the final stages of acquiring offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) to boost maritime security and strengthen its operational reach.
Addressing the Ghana Navy Memorial Day commemoration in Sekondi on Sunday, September 14, Rear Admiral Bessing explained that the procurement forms part of broader efforts to enhance the Navy’s capacity in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters against both conventional and emerging threats.
“Plans are far advanced for the acquisition of offshore patrol vessels to further enhance our operational capabilities,” he announced, adding that the move would significantly improve maritime patrols and protect the nation’s resources.
He further paid tribute to fallen naval officers, assuring their families that their sacrifice remains etched in the memory of the service.
“Their contributions will never be forgotten, and their legacy continues to inspire our commitment to duty,” he said.
