Ghana is on course to achieve at least 35% renewable energy in its national electricity generation mix by the end of 2025, Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has said.
He was addressing the opening of the 31st Africa Oil Week in Accra on Monday, September 15, the first time the event is being hosted outside South Africa.
Mr Jinapor said President John Dramani Mahama had expanded the mandate of the Ministry of Energy to include Green Transition, emphasising the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
“Ghana is deeply committed to promoting renewable energy as a core component of its development agenda,” he declared.
The Minister stressed that Ghana’s strategy is not about abandoning hydrocarbons but about striking a balance that ensures energy sufficiency while protecting the environment.
“Inclusive of our hydro capacity, Ghana is on course to achieve at least 35% renewable energy in its overall electricity generation mix by the end of this year,” he noted.
Mr Jinapor also called for global partnerships that go beyond capital inflows, urging investors to bring innovation and technology.
“We are ready to work with partners who bring not just capital, but also technology, innovation, and a commitment to mutual benefit,” he said.
