The Adom community in Atebubu in the Bono East Region has been thrown into mourning after the lifeless body of a five-year-old girl, Makimor Yagyeger, was discovered in a dam three days after she was reported missing.
According to eyewitnesses, the body was spotted floating on the surface of the dam, prompting an alert to security personnel.
Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Atebubu responded and retrieved the body.
The incident has left residents devastated, with many calling for a thorough police investigation to determine the cause of death.
Some community members suspect foul play, alleging that the girl may have been murdered and dumped in the dam to conceal the crime.
The body has since been taken into police custody for autopsy and further investigation.
Meanwhile, the GNFS has urged residents to exercise caution around water bodies, particularly during the rainy season, to avoid similar tragedies.
