The UK Trade Commissioner for Africa, John Humphrey, has commended British businesses operating across the African continent for their commitment to local communities and responsible business practices.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Humphrey said he takes pride in how most UK companies go beyond profit-making to invest in the people and economies where they operate.

“I’m most proud when I see what UK businesses are doing across the whole continent in Africa,” he said. “I’m sure we have our companies that are not so good as well. But in general, in my experience, UK companies take responsibilities seriously — they put a lot into the communities.”

Reflecting on a previous visit to Accra, Mr Humphrey highlighted Ghana’s growing role in the UK-Africa trade relationship. He revealed that many raw materials and products used by British companies are now sourced and manufactured in Ghana.

“The last time I was in Accra, a large percentage of raw materials came from Ghana. A lot of that production is done in Ghana. Most of the products they sell are made in Ghana,” he noted.

Mr Humphrey’s remarks underscore the increasing importance of Ghana as a hub for UK businesses seeking sustainable partnerships across Africa.
