The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, has pledged bold reforms to tackle the municipality’s sanitation crisis, vowing to transform the area into Ghana's cleanest city.
During an engagement with traditional leaders and residents to brainstorm solutions to poor sanitation, the MCE announced measures to ensure enhanced sanitation in the municipality.
Images shown during the meeting revealed disturbing scenes across the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
Mr Alhassan disclosed that within his first five days in office, over GH¢153,000 was released to tackle the sanitation crisis across key locations. He further revealed that the Assembly has been allocated GH¢2.9 million to strengthen sanitation interventions.

He expressed frustration over persistent indiscipline among residents, citing examples of people returning to dump refuse at freshly cleared sites and households illegally channelling toilet waste into open gutters.
“Sanitation issues shouldn’t be politicised. I belong to a political party, but I have cautioned my office that sanitation is not a political matter,” he emphasised.

The MCE added that his office has already prosecuted offenders, including a tricycle rider caught dumping waste into a drain, while others have been disciplined for littering from vehicles.
“I will not hesitate to discipline sanitation offenders. We’ve taken action already, and we’ll continue until the municipality is clean,” he stated.
The Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its vision to make Asokore Mampong a model city for sanitation in Ghana.
